The PADI AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Specialty introduces you to one of the ocean’s most important ecosystems.

Turn your dives into real conservation experience

Certified divers can combine their PADI AWARE Coral Reef Conservation course in Phi Phi with a 2-dive CoralWatch Citizen Science experience.

After your conservation classroom session, we’ll head out to the reefs around Phi Phi to put your knowledge into practice.

You’ll learn how to use the CoralWatch Coral Health Chart to monitor coral colour, identify signs of coral stress and bleaching, and collect observations about the health of the reef.

Your observations can contribute to CoralWatch citizen science, helping build a better understanding of changes in coral health.

It’s a fantastic introduction to citizen science and conservation diving in Thailand, while still enjoying two beautiful dives around the Phi Phi Islands.

Course Structure

1. Coral Conservation eLearning /Classroom Session

Learn about coral biology, reef ecosystems, coral bleaching, threats to coral reefs and what we can do to protect them.

2. CoralWatch Citizen Science Training

Learn how the Coral Health Chart works and how divers can collect useful coral health observations underwater.

3. Two Coral Conservation Dives

Join your instructor for 2 dives around Phi Phi, where you’ll observe the reef, identify different corals and use your CoralWatch skills underwater.

Who Can Join?

The classroom-based PADI AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Specialty is open to divers and non-divers, so you don’t need to be scuba certified to start learning about coral reef conservation.

To join the 2-dive CoralWatch Citizen Science experience, you’ll need to be a certified diver.

This makes the program ideal for divers interested in marine conservation, coral reefs, citizen science and sustainable scuba diving.
