Marine debris, particularly plastic waste, is one of the biggest threats facing our oceans. The PADI AWARE Dive Against Debris Specialty gives divers the knowledge and practical skills to become part of the solution.
Before diving, you’ll complete the PADI AWARE eLearning followed by a classroom session with our team at Blue View Divers.
We’ll look at where marine debris comes from, how it affects marine ecosystems and how divers can safely remove, identify and record debris underwater.
Then it’s time to put your knowledge into practice on two conservation dives around Phi Phi.
During your dives, you’ll learn how to:
The aim isn’t simply to collect trash. You’ll learn how to conduct a responsible underwater cleanup and turn what you find into useful environmental data.
Your PADI Dive Against Debris Phi Phi course includes:
National Park fees are not included.
After your dives, we’ll sort and record the debris collected and show you how survey information can contribute to a better understanding of the problems affecting our reefs.
Your findings can be submitted through PADI AWARE’s Dive Against Debris program, and we can also record relevant observations through our Blue View Divers citizen science projects.
The goal is to give you the skills to continue participating in Dive Against Debris surveys wherever your future diving takes you.
One cleanup is valuable. Long-term data can be even more powerful.
By learning how to correctly identify, record and report marine debris, recreational divers can help provide information from beneath the surface that would otherwise be difficult to collect.
It’s one of the simplest ways to turn an ordinary dive into a Dive with Purpose.

The Dive Against Debris Specialty is ideal for divers who want to do more than simply observe the underwater world.
You’ll develop greater environmental awareness while practising useful diving skills such as buoyancy, navigation, teamwork and task management.
It’s particularly suitable for:

Blue View Divers has been involved in marine conservation on Phi Phi for many years through underwater cleanups, community projects, environmental education and citizen science.
As a PADI 5 Star Eco Center, we want conservation to be something divers can actively participate in — not simply something they hear about.
Dive Against Debris gives you practical skills that you can take with you and use throughout your diving life.
After your cleanup, we’ll take a photo with the debris collected to celebrate your achievement and help raise awareness about marine pollution.
With your permission, we may share your conservation dive through our Instagram, Facebook and YouTube channels to encourage more divers to take action for the ocean.
